Guy Ritchie finds "Treasure Island"

4 June – Director Guy Ritchie, best known for his crime films, which comes with his very own brand of highly stylised modern filmmaking techniques such as "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", "RocknRolla", "Sherlock Holmes" and its sequel "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows", is set to bring his blend of high-octane action for another period setting, which involves swashbucklers, buried treasures, and pegged-legged pirates.

According to Deadline, Ritchie has been attached to bring the screenplay written by Alex Harakis for "Treasure Island" to life for Warner Bros. The film will be co-produced by Ritchie together with his partner Lionel Wigram and Kevin McCormick.

The original "Treasure Island", written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is a classic that has been adapted to screen multiple times before, but Harakis is said to be writing the adaptation based on a stylised version of the original tale by Wigram instead, similar to what he did for "Sherlock Holmes".

Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, "Treasure Island" is an adventure tale narrated by James "Jim" Hawkins. It chronicles the young boy's journey in finding the location of Flint's treasure, helped along by Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney, while thwarting the schemes of Long John Silver, a former quartermaster for Captain Flint who is also seeking the treasure.

Besides "Treasure Island", Ritchie and Wigram are also working on a film adaptation of the TV series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E", a project that Ritchie took over when Steven Soderbergh ("Haywire") dropped out.
