14 Dec – Jackie Chan is blasted once again for what his 'irresponsible' criticism regarding Hong Kong residents' rights to demonstrate.

According to SCMP, in an interview that was published on 11 December, the actor was quoted saying, ""Hong Kong has become a city of protest. The whole world used to say it was South Korea, but now it's Hong Kong. People scold China's leaders, or anything else they like, and protest against everything."

The actor continued saying that the government should specify what can be protested and what should not, implying that the demonstration should be restricted.

Meanwhile, the versatile celebrity also gave his two-cents on mainland China's control on filmmaking, stating, "I don't know whether it is better to have freedom or to have no freedom. With too much freedom, it can get very chaotic. It could end up like in Taiwan."

Several political scientists and observers revealed that they were surprised that the actor made such statements, stating that "It's a shame for the movie industry, because the freedom of expression is fundamental to his line of business. Just as the government cannot lay down rules on what movies can or can't be made, he should appreciate that there should be no restrictions on which protests can be held as long as they comply with the law."

It is the second time that Jackie Chan has made controversial remarks about restricting freedom in Hong Kong. In April 2009, Chan was severely criticised for saying that Chinese people needed to be controlled in the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan.

Later, Jackie Chan said his remarks had been taken out of context and twisted.
