Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge and wife of Britain's Prince William, smiles during a ceremony naming a hybrid orchid in their honour at the Singapore Botanical Gardens in Singapore on September 11. The couple were greeted by crowds of cheering well-wishers Tuesday as they arrived in Singapore at the start of an Asia-Pacific tour.

The Duchess of Cambridge chose a pale pink, kimono-style orchid print dress by Jenny Packham for the royal couple’s first day in Singapore.

The design has particular significance, since it ties in with their visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid was named in honour of her and William, the Duke of Cambridge.

She paired her dress with a nude clutch and a pair of nude heels.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Defence, Maliki Osma, and his wife greeted William and Kate upon their arrival to the city-state.

After the orchid-naming ceremony, the couple made their way to the Raffles Hotel, where a crowd of Singaporeans and tourists waited to catch a glimpse.

For the state dinner with Singapore's head-of-state President Tony Tan Keng Yam, she wore a dress designed by Singapore-born designer Prabal Gurung.

According to fashion retailer Browns, the frock has been described as 'largely purple and cream Rorschach floral printed wool-silk blend dress'.

Kate has been known for her style and elegant fashion choices that suit the occasion. On their official visit to Canada, she wore red and white, and a brooch and hat with a maple-leaf design.

Fashion retail websites have been known to crash due to the ‘Kate effect’. ‘Copy Kates’, or fans of her dress sense, have been known to log onto the sites to buy the same dress within minutes of Kate’s arrival to an event.

This is what happened with high-street brand Resis and its beige Shola dress, which she wore during President Obama’s official visit to Buckingham Palace.

Will this Jenny Packham frock benefit from the ‘Kate effect’? Fans will soon find out.
