Japan’s famous music festival Summer Sonic will be coming to Korea as Super! Sonic.
PMC Networks, known for its musical Nanta and other performances, will bring Super! Sonic to Korea - in connection with Japan’s Summer Sonic which was held on April 25 - on August 14-15 at the Olympic Park in Seoul. There will be three performances at the ’88 Garden, the gymnasium and at the handball stadium.
A rep from PMC Networks said, “Instead of emphasizing rock, jazz and other specific genres, the popular music festival will cater to the tastes of all music lovers and feature a full lineup that will include pop, rock, electronic music and K-pop genres.”
Japan’s Summer Sonic was first held in 2000 and this year marks the festivals 13th anniversary as Asia’s representative music festival.
Moreover, the music festival will open in Tokyo and Osaka this year and will feature a global lineup that could rival any American or European festival. Big Bang made an appearance in Summer Sonic in 2010, while Girls’ Generation and BoA’s inclusion attracted a lot of buzz in the festival’s 2011 lineup.
This year’s lineup will include Green Day, Rihanna, New Order, Jamiroquai, Tears for Fears, Foster the People and The Vaccines. Accordingly, many are wondering what kind of groups will be featured in the upcoming Super! Sonic festival. Super! Sonic’s official lineup will be revealed later on Mar 9.
Super! Sonic has been getting more buzz than the rock festival opening in Gyeonggi-do because the festival will be held in Seoul and should prove to be much more easily accessible as a result.
