Moroccanoil Barrel Brush

When it comes to our hair we spend a fortune on products that are tailored to our hair type – but can you say the same about your hairbrush? Believe it or not, the type of brush you use can make a huge difference to your hair health and how effectively you can style it. Hairbrushes come in an assortment of different shapes and sizes and are designed to do different things. So which one should you be using for your hair type or dilemma? Well, we asked the experts to find out.

Barrel brush: for blow-drying

Recommended brush: Moroccanoil Barrel Brush

Why: “What I love about this brush is that it maintains a consistent temperature and reduces drying time,” says celebrity hairdresser Errol Douglas MBE. “The bristles produce negative ions which cause water to evaporate more quickly, and the ceramic technology in the design helps a really healthy-looking shine finish with body, making it the perfect blow-drying brush.”

Paddle brush: for straight hair

Recommended brush: Moroccanoil Paddle Brush

Why: “It’s the tool that finishes what the barrel brush started,” says Errol. “Again its design repels water, but at this stage in the blow dry the paddle provides the perfect flat shape for creating that straight, smooth end result.”

Metal brush: to create curls

Recommended brush: John Frieda Hot Air Brush

Why: “Never use a metal brush to dry wet hair as it can damage your locks by pulling it,” explains celebrity hairdresser Mark Woolley, “but I would definitely urge that you invest in one if you want to create curls in your hair. They’re great for holding a curl in place when your hair is nearly dry and also creating volume at your roots.”

Vented brush: to create volume

Recommended brush: D100 tunnel vent brush

Why: “Vented brushed have slits through the back which are designed to decrease drying time by allowing air to circulate freely at the root,” explains Mark. “The added lift this brush creates at the root will add volume to your locks."
