Meryl Streep's Oscar gown was made with "so much love".

The award-winning actress wowed on the red carpet at the prestigious film ceremony earlier this year in a stunning gold floor-sweeping creation by Lanvin.

The luxe label's designer Alber Elbaz was desperate for the Hollywood star to don the lamé draped dress as such an effort went into creating it.

"The seamstress that made the dress worked for three days and three nights on the dress, and after she finished, she was sick for three days," he recalled in an interview with WWD.

"And you know, with the Oscars, you do the dress and you never know if they will wear it. I wanted so much for [Streep] to wear it, just for this woman that didn't go to sleep for three days, and just put so much love into the dress."

The metallic gown was created from eco-certified fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. The dress was made in such an eco-friendly manner as part of Livia Firth's Green Carpet Challenge.

Meryl collected her third best actress Oscar for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady earlier this year.

The star spoke about her disdain at the growing obsession with red carpet gowns at the time.

“[I am] grateful my work is recognised but, boy, we’ve gotten bloated. So grand. The outfits so incredible,” she said. “Their desperation to make an impact really gets to me.”
