Found footage: "Borneo Incident"

16 May – As the latest film to ride on to the found footage wave, the locally flavoured "The Borneo Incident" written and directed by New York-based company Maverick Media founder, Michael Helfman, has certainly garnered a lot of anticipation from moviegoers.

In "The Borneo Incident", "The 8TV Quickie" host Henry Golding leads a team of five fun-loving youths who document their travels from New York to Borneo via Malaysia. By delving deep into the wilderness, the gang also seek to discover Henry's familial roots from the Iban head hunting tribe in Borneo, only to discover that something is amiss.

Golding, who hails from a British and Iban parentage, certainly fits the bill as the main character. However, though he has been a TV host for a variety of shows such as "Without Boundaries: The Great Outdoors" and "Without Boundaries: Islands and Beaches", this would be Golding's first leading role in a feature film.

Apart from Golding, the film also features the talents of Rob Gilliland (from Australia), Mitch Ross (the United States), Fay Hokulani (Singapore) and Helfman as Henry's friends in the film. Apart from the international casting, homegrown celebrities, Daphne Iking, Carmen Soo, Hansen Lee and Dennis Lau are also in it as the local guides.

According to Helfman, he chose Malaysia as the location for his film because it is a melting pot of races and cultures with an interesting scenery to boot.

"The Borneo Incident" is currently going through its final finishing touches and is slated for release in the fourth quarter of this year. Helfman is in talks with the distributors in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei for its release in cinemas.
