Recap: Comic-Con San Diego 2013

Recently, Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013 concluded its four-day run from 18 to 21 July, with fans emerging with more information about their favourites TV series, movies, and stars. Some of the highlights of the event are panels for Marvel's upcoming movies like "Thor: The Dark World", "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "The Avengers 2", Zack Synder's plans for his "Man Of Steel" sequel, as well as panels for "Ender's Game" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire".

We know that tickets can be mighty hard to get for those with a limited amount of allowance, so for your personal enjoyment (and torture), we've recapped some of the best moments of Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013 so you can read it and weep on what you have missed out on.

Tom Hiddleston appearing on stage as Loki

Undeniably, the best part of Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013 has got to be the charismatic Tom Hiddleston taking the stage from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at Marvel's panel to command everyone in the hall of kneel and introduce footage of "Thor: The Dark World". Because we love you, we have found a good quality video of said moment, because you need to see Hiddleston shout "Say my name!" to the Hall H crowd.

Also at the Marvel Comic-Con panel, director Joss Whedon revealed that the title for the next "The Avengers" movie will be "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron". However, the movie will not follow the "Age Of Ultron" storyline in the comics. For those who don't know, Ultron is a living automaton created by Henry "Hank" Pym a.k.a. Ant-Man.

Michael Fassbender's appearance at the "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" panel
Hardly anyone expected the whole cast of "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" to turn up for the movie's panel, but turn up they did. But the biggest surprise of the day was yet to come, as a man wearing a bunny mask walked up on stage to high-five James McAvoy, only to take off his mask to reveal himself to be Michael Fassbender, who plays Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a. Magneto! Writer Simon Kinberg also talked about how the movie will be adapting things differently than the comics, with Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) not being this one who goes back in time this time, but sending someone back in time. The cast also talked about their "older" and "younger" versions meeting, with Patrick Stewart making quips like, "The best part of this movie is knowing that, at an earlier time in my life, I was James McAvoy."

Karen Gillan reveals shaved head
Another formidable contender for the biggest surprise of Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013 is "Doctor Who" actress Karen Gillan stepping up on stage to talk about her role as Nebula, a space pirate and grand-daughter of Thanos in the "Guardians Of The Galaxy" panel, only to take off her wig to reveal that she has shaved her head bald for the role! (Note to self: must find out name of wig-maker; that was some realistic-looking ginger hair).

Director James Gunn and the entire main cast of the movie which consisted of (get ready) Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, David Bautista, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Karen Gillan and Michael Rooker, also took the opportunity to introduce early footage of "Guardians Of The Galaxy". Initial reception of the footage was positive, with many praising Gunn's brand of humour and production design.

Zack Synder announces Superman-Batman movie
Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013, had "Man Of Steel" actor Harry Lennix read a passage from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" that went as follows:

"I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you."

After that, Snyder revealed to the audience, "I'm so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can't wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let's face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world."

Since Christian Bale has already hung up his cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman, it's Marvel's move on who to cast.

"Ender's Game" panel in general
Comic-Con International: San Diego 2013 saw fans presented with the opportunity to interact with actual sets used in the filming of the upcoming movie in "The Ender's Game Fan Experience". In addition to the sets, there are multiple props and costumes on display, as well as a host of new footage from the film that plays on multiple screens throughout the exhibit.

Andrew Garfield appearing in costume on the panel
Talk about dedication! "The Amazing Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield made quite an entrance when he walked in for the movie's panel dressed in full costume saying, "Sorry I'm late. There was a Chewbacca fight I had to break up."

A hilarious exchange then ensued when Spidey was asked if he was Andrew Garfield.
Spider-Man: Who's Andrew?
Director Marc Webb: He's the actor who plays you in the movie we made.
Spider-Man: I thought Eduardo Saverin played me.
Marc Webb: Andrew Garfield is the actor who played Eduardo Saverin.
Spider-Man: Oh. He's done more than one movie?

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" panel in general
They debuted a new trailer for the movie, which showcases Katniss's phenomenally awesome new costumes and more emotional drama.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" panel in general
Like most of the other panels, the movie's panel debuted a trailer for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", which sees the Captain battling eight or nine men led by Frank Grillo's Brock Rumlow a.k.a. Crossbones. Kevin Feige also elaborated that while the audience had to ignore the absence of the Avengers in "Iron Man 3", "Thor: The Dark World" skirts the problem by setting the story in Asgard, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will see the Captain directly dealing with a post-Avengers world.
