Russell Peters' 3-hour sellout!

22 Apr – Despite the possible controversies that may arise from the announcement of Canadian comedian-actor Russell Peters' upcoming visit to Malaysia for a stand-up performance, within only three hours a total of 7,900 tickets for "Russell Peters' Notorious World Tour 2012" in Shah Alam have been sold out.

The stand-up comedy show on 12 May marks the "New Year's Eve" actor's first visit to Malaysia, which explains the high demand for tickets. Of course, Peters is also well known locally for his stand-up comedy act that uses humour to highlight racial, ethnic, class and cultural stereotypes.

Leonard Chua, producer of the show organizer Running Into the Sun (RITS) together with LOL Events, said the Malaysian fans had begun queuing up in front of their office in Kelana Jaya for the tickets at 6:30am before the ticket sales even begun at 9am.

"The cheaper tickets, priced at RM128 and RM188, were sold out within an hour," said Chua.

"Besides being in talks with Peters, we are also trying to find out if the stadium would again be available," he responded when asked if there would be a second show, following the high demand for the first, which will be held in Stadium Melawati.

On another note, this is not Peters' first time in breaking the sales record for his stand-up comedy shows. Peters was the first comedian to sell out more than 16,000 tickets in two days for a single show at Toronto's Air Canada Centre and eventually selling over 30,000 tickets in his hometown during the two-day sales period.

Furthermore, Peters' two shows in Dubai were sold out within eight minutes, thus making his show the fastest selling event in the country, even faster than "Queen Of Pop" Madonna's concert sales.

Not only that, the 42-year-old star also boasts a career in acting, having had roles in movies like "Source Code" alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, "Speedy Singhs" and Garry Marshall's star-studded "New Year's Eve".
