Yun-fat & Tse's first collaboration

25 Aug – Previously rumoured to be "God Of Gamblers 4", it is now reported that Hong Kong film director Wong Jing's upcoming film starring Chow Yun-fat and Nicholas Tse may turn out to be something else after all.

According to China.com, the man famed for his movies about gambling is setting his sights on a crime film instead, while retaining his cast choices of Chow Yun-fat and Nicholas Tse. Chow Yun-fat was known for being the lead star in Wong Jing's gambling action comedy-drama film "God of Gamblers" in 1989, while Tse's first movie was produced by Jing, which was "Young and Dangerous: The Prequel" in 1998. It is well-known that Jing is a close friend of Tse's family.

Chow Yun-fat and Nicholas Tse have not filmed a movie together before, but the "God Of Gamblers" star has always looked favourably on his junior and looks forward to their collaboration. Initially, the plan was to have Tse take over the role played by Andy Lau, Little Knife, who takes Chow Yun-fat's Ko Chun in in the film after Chun suffers from amnesia and regresses to a childlike state.

Wong Jing's "God of Gamblers" was so successful that it spawned many parodies and spin-offs such as "All For The Winner" in 1990 starring Stephen Chow. Its true sequel was "God of Gamblers Returns" in 1994, with Chow Yun-fat reprising his role as Ko Chun, sans Andy Lau's character, while "God of Gamblers 3: The Early Stage" formed the prequel to the original, starring Leon Lai as Ko Chun.
